Dear Families and Staff of Big White Community School,
At the next School Board meeting on January 18, 2022, via zoom, the Board will vote on whether to begin a consultation process for reconfiguring Big White Community School from a K-9 to a K-7 school.
At this time, the Board is simply considering whether or not to start the consultation process. No decision has been made about the reconfiguration itself. There are, however, some challenges that exist with the present structure of BWCS, and the consultation process will allow any discussion of those challenges to happen openly and meaningfully.
If the Board approves the motion, then a consultation process would start immediately for 60 days. During this consultation, SD 51 will present the facts and information relating to the reconfiguration. There will be ample opportunity for those affected to voice opinions and concerns either in meetings or through written submissions. In addition, if this motion to begin consultation passes, more information on the consultation will be sent directly to you.
Again, I want to emphasize that no decision concerning reconfiguration has been made. I realize this may cause concern and worry with some families, and I want to assure you that the Board’s focus has always been, and will continue to be, on students and their learning.
